Wambach Out!

Word from San Diego is that Abby Wambach suffered a broken tib-fib and will have surgery tomorrow. She is expected to be out for 12 weeks thus ending her Olympic dreams. Best guess is that Lauren Cheney will be making the trip Beijing, but that's not official.

Wambouch!

I was there covering the match live for OleOle.com and the moment I saw Abby on the ground I immediately thought: "she will get some water and she'll be fine" but it only took a minute to realize it was something much serious. Then I started to wonder why she went for that 50-50 ball? It was a friendly match she could've, should've avoided any rough plays. It was the last match before the Olympics... oh well, I believe she thought the same thing when she was on that stretcher.

Hey, I just added your blog to my blog roll, is it possible to link us back? Thanks

I BELIEVE

I posted this on another board, and I'll post it here:

If there is anything about our team that sets us apart from the "Brazil"s of the world is (besides the obvious of actually playing the game rather than attempting to murder the opponent) is that the depth of our bench and team is outstanding.
Kai has stepped up this year (never really got to see much of her before this year anyway), A-Rod in the last few games, Mitts has quieted any questions in my mind about her play and I could go on and on and on about every player.

This last game just shows that this team can take blows like that and still end up on top. I wish it wouldn't have happened-Abby being so close to a milestone in her career and equally closer to the biggest competition in the world, but I know the US will bring 100% of what they have to the Olympics and I have full confidence that they will come out on top.

As horrible as this is (I still have a knot in my stomach from it), I feel the team will become closer and prove to anyone who doubts them that the depth of their bench and players is such that they can still come out on top, even if something as unfortunate (to say the least) as this happens.
